Target clientele: Women and men who face the dual struggles of unstable housing/homelessness and avoiding addictive substances, often as a result of poverty, a low sense of self worth and mental health challenges.
Type of units: Studio suites, 223 and 342 square feet.
Number of residents/units: 40 studio suites (each include kitchen and washroom) to house 40 single individuals.
Type of building: Apartment, with significant common space for offices, supportive services, programming and community-building activities.
Capital cost: current estimate $6,100,000, including land.
Capital financing: Donors: $3,000,000; Government funding: $1,200,000, and mortgage financing: $1,900.000 (with every effort to be mortgage free)
Operating financing: Payments from residents
(assuming maximum EIA/Rent Assist rates), donations from individuals, gifts-in-kind, grants, other donors.
Location: land has been purchased at 307/315 Talbot Avenue in Elmwood and is being prepared for the project.
Operating partner: Riverwood Church Community
Offering significant supports and neighbourhood programming for 20 years in Elmwood.
Supports to be provided to tenants: On-site program staff; partnership with Finding Freedom (recovery program); health supports from WRHA (not yet negotiated); an environment of shared community facilitated by staff; professional and supportive services provided by partnering organizations (ie: counseling / support groups), personal supports provided by volunteers, and a focus on peer supports.

Time-line: We expect to have a confirmation from City Council by September 2019; confirmation of Government funding by late 2019; and start building in spring of 2020 for completion by spring of 2021.
